Hiragana Reading Quiz: ひらがな

 Now that you learned hiragana in the previous article, let's try some reading quizzes to see how well you actually understand hiragana and can read words written in hiragana.


Q1. Select an appropriate reading in the roman alphabet for the following words written in hiragana. (The answers are below.)


1. あか

 How was it? When it comes to double consonant /っ/ and long vowels, it would be a little more difficult, wouldn't it? If you got most of them above, you have already achieved the first goal in learning Japanese! Every word can be transcribed in hiragana, so technically you can write and read any words in Japanese using hiragana.  The next step should be "being able to read and write them smoothly". So, keep on reviewing and practicing them! がんばってください! (Do your best and good luck.)
